Behind the scenes at Dimensions and Outlook festivals

Posted in Uncategorised

I spent two weeks out in Croatia as crew to paint the signage and graffiti the walls of the main stages at Dimensions and Outlook festivals in Pula. The incredible and beautiful location for these dance music  is set on a beach in Pula, with the  main stages in an abandoned fort. I painted the iconic “Dimensions” and “Outlook” signs that can be seen all across the fort arena – see photos below.

Here is my meandering advice for anyone working at Dimensions/Outlook 2016:

1) If someone barges you or steps on your toe, it’s ok. You’re not in London, they’re probably not a dickhead, they’re probably just wasted. Have a chat, they’re probably bloody nice people

2) Your bladder can hold in a pee for an undefinable amount of time to avoid using sauna-temperate portaloos

3) Shade is your friend

4) Sun and alcohol pretend to be friends but they always end up arguing and it’ll leave you having to have a nap

5) Don’t underestimate people’s self-initiated willingness to help, co-opporate, learn, work and create

6) Payment isn’t always monetary

7) Never underestimate Belgians. They work hard, play hard, and are generally all really fit 😉

8) People thrive on hierarchy

9) Seeing the fruits of your labour is an indescribable feeling

10) Seeing randoms enjoying the fruits of your labour is even better because your workmates share your indescribable feeling

11) Wet wipes

12) Too much ecstasy becomes a chore

13) Too much drugs is less fun than no drugs at all

14) Five days of partying leaves you broken, having at least a night off is so worth it

15) Sunsets never get old

16) Moonsets are rare

17) Sunrises are wonderful, but you probably should be in bed

18) Camp under a tree<

19) Don’t underestimate how healing swimming in the sea is, it’ll cures everything from hangovers through abrasions, hay fever to exhaustion, blisters and meltdowns

20) Don’t bank on anything, the things you worry about aren’t the things that will become an issue. The things to be concerned about are things you can’t envision. Same with the amazing moments and experiences you will encounter

21) In the right context, strangers can become friends within minutes and family within hours

22) Everyone is beautiful. Everyone is odd. Everyone is unique. You are one of them.
